Ellen M Rugg, MA, MSW, LICSW
Welcome to my website.
I've been a practicing psychotherapist for over 23 years.
When beginning with a new client, my first priority is to begin
to build a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. A trusting therapeutic relationship is the key to the success of
any counseling or psychotherapy that's undertaken.
My style is often considered interactive and warm.
I often work with high functioning women & men
whom are highly motivated toward change, growth or healing.
I utilize a strength-based approach in working with a wide range of problems.
Problems/issues I've been able to be helpful with include: life or relationship transitions, self-esteem, self-growth, women's issues, grief & loss, and, healing from childhood abuse or trauma. People often begin counseling at times when they are feeling stressed, anxious, sad or depressed.
I work collaboratively with each of my clients to create a specific plan based on strengths, needs, and goals. Depending on your specific needs are we may: 1. work psychodynamically (explore your history to learn
how it is affecting your current life), 2. work cognitive-behaviorally (explore & challenge distorted beliefs/thoughts which may be affecting your feelings & behavior) or, 3. work to resolve trauma, physical or sexual abuse by weaving back and forth between the "here & now" and the past.
As a Washington State Approved Supervisor, I enjoy providing clinical supervision to Clinical Social Workers, Psychologists, and Mental Health Counselors working toward Licensure. I also provide consultation to other Licensed Clinicians.
You'll find more detailed information on my experience, approach and philosophy under "Paperwork" in my "Disclosure Statement".
I love my work, and consider it a privilege to be part of therapeutic change process. I welcome your inquiry.
